Thane Air Quality Declared Second Best In Country

The second week of the ongoing of month of November saw some great news coming in for residents of Thane. Apparently the city of lakes has been breathing some of the cleanest air in the country, as declared by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Coming at a time when Delhi seems to be gasping under toxic air pollution levels, the upcoming smart city stands as the second best in the country in terms of air quality. The city had an air quality level at 45 as from 4pm on November 3 to November 4, revealed by a 24 hour analysis of the average air quality index (AQI) of 97 cities across the country.

Air quality is considered good when some eight pollutants, including Ozone and Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur Dioxide and Nitrogen Dioxide, and suspended particulates are within permissible limits. From satisfactory some time ago to good very recently, Thane has considerably improved on its air quality levels. As claimed by The Thane Municipal Corporation, this recent development was a result of its initiative to increase awareness about air pollution. The vertical gardens installed at vantage spots along the highways is one of such initiatives. The corporation has also aggressively promoted pollution-free Diwali celebrations this time, which was seen yielding positive results with the amount of crackers being very less compared to the last few times.

Experts have attributed the good air quality levels to the unseasonal showers over the past few days. Rains might have helped balance the toxicity in the air, although the city witnessed some slow moving traffic and immense construction, both activities contributing heavily to air pollution. However, resident will have to work towards ensuring a pollution-free environment by reducing the volume of vehicles. Latching on to car pools whenever possible is a good measure, as depending on rains isn’t enough to keep control. TMC could still be reducing waiting time at select signals in the city and traffic jams, mostly due to metro works, thereby lowering the emission of pollutants in the air.

Thane residents are known to enjoy a fresh green life and healthy living compared to other cities. With the Yeoor Hills receiving the first rainfall from monsoon winds and stretching throughout the city, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park having an inborn strength of a natural environment with its tranquility, and the new Grand Central Park designed as per the standards of urban parks of New York and Chicago, Thane is blessed with lush greens. New residential projects, like Risland group’s The Icon at Dhokali area, have amenities like the multidimensional landscape which allows to live in natural gardens every day, indigenous plants from their places of origin building this indispensable paradise for residents.
